This delicious burger really does have it all.

Ingredients

  • 750g premium beef mince
  • 250g sausage mince
  • 1 small brown onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • Extra 2 large brown onions, thinly sliced
  • 6 wholemeal rolls, halved, lightly toasted
  • 6 small lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced

Barbecue Sauce

  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 small brown onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tsp malt vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp soft brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp soy sauce

Method

1. Combine minces, onion, sauces, breadcrumbs and egg in a large bowl and season. Using clean hands, mix well. Divide into 6 portions. Using damp hands, shape into patties. Put patties on a tray, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

2. To make barbecue sauce, heat oil in a pan over a medium heat. Cook onion for 5 minutes or until soft. Add vinegar, sugar and sauces and stir until mixture comes to the boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 3 minutes. Allow to cool.

3. Preheat barbecue flat plate on medium until hot. Add a tablespoon of oil to plate and barbecue extra onion, turning often, until tender and light golden. Move onion to outer edge of hotplate, to keep warm.

4. Brush both sides of patties well with remaining oil. Barbecue for 6-8 minutes each side, or till brown and cooked through.

5. Top 1 half of each roll with 1 lettuce leaf, a patty, sliced tomato and fried onion. Dollop with barbecue sauce. Top with remaining roll halves.
